Clínica Prof. Machado Capelas – Medicina Dentária

Your treatment carried out with complete peace of mind

At the Prof. Machado Capelas Clinic, patient well-being and comfort during dental treatment are of utmost importance. Since some treatments, such as surgeries, can be lengthy and cause discomfort, the clinic uses intravenous sedation. This is not general anesthesia but lowers the patient’s level of consciousness, ensuring maximum relaxation throughout the entire procedure.
This is a safer and less invasive procedure than general anesthesia, performed by a team led by an anesthesiologist who works alongside the dentist.
During intravenous sedation, the anesthesiologist remains in the operating room throughout the procedure, monitoring vital signs such as blood pressure, heart rate, blood oxygen levels, and electrocardiogram, ensuring full control over the patient’s vital functions.
Sedation also reduces the release of stress-related substances in the blood that cause increased blood pressure and heart rate during the procedure. The postoperative period is also calmer and less painful. During the procedure, intravenous medications for pain relief, anti-inflammatory drugs, and, in some cases, antibiotics are administered.
Sedation is suitable for all patients, especially those who are anxious, feel discomfort at the dentist, or need to undergo lengthy treatments. It can be used in implantology, oral rehabilitation, aesthetic dentistry, endodontics, wisdom tooth extractions, and more. It is also ideal for patients with limited time who wish to complete treatment efficiently in a single session.
Intensive treatment combined with sedation not only speeds up the completion of the work but can also improve the quality of the treatments. The patient is discharged on the same day.
At the Prof. Machado Capelas Clinic, sedation is managed by Dr. Jorge Marvão and his team.
“At the Prof. Machado Capelas Clinic, there is a fundamental concern for the well-being and comfort of the patient during their dental treatment.”
DR. JORGE MARVÃO (ANESTHESIOLOGIST)
