GBT – Guided Biofilm Therapy

Guided Biofilm Therapy is an innovative method when it comes to professional dental cleaning solutions, and is part of a comprehensive prevention concept – aimed at preserving patients' oral health – and making them feel good. As the name suggests, Guided Biofilm Therapy means that the dentist is guided by the disclosed biofilm during the dental cleaning procedures, making the entire process truly less invasive, as it reduces the need for manual and sonic/ultrasonic instruments. Furthermore, it is a method that proves to be safe, effective, and gentle on teeth, soft tissues, implants, and restorations.

This technique was developed by the brand EMS in collaboration with periodontologists, dentists specialized in restorative dentistry, as well as dental hygienists. It is essentially characterized as a systematic, predictable, risk-oriented treatment that is easy to use for all age groups and each individual patient.

Is this technique suitable for every case? How does it work?

The main goal of GBT is to eliminate all biofilm from teeth, implants, and soft tissues, including hard-to-reach areas. Before removal, the biofilm is always disclosed with a colouring solution, and once it becomes visible, the process becomes much simpler, as what the dentist can see is exactly what will be removed.

Guided Biofilm Therapy is an adaptable method suitable for all patients, always bearing in mind that the dentist must carry out a prior evaluation of each clinical case. However, GBT prevents and treats gingivitis, preserves exposed dentin, helps detect cavities with precision, contributes to the minimally invasive treatment of peri-implantitis, maintains orthodontic appliances, and prevents cavities during treatment.
